(Little) Lady in Red

Today, while Jilly was hosting a playdate, she decided that her friend needed a new hair color. So Jilly took her big sister’s red “play” lipgloss and smeared it all over her friend’s beautiful dark brown head of hair. Jilly and her friend loved the new look.

Her friend’s parents were gracious and laughed it off when they came up to pick up their daughter who now had (somewhat) red and (definitely) sticky hair.

After dinner, we received a call from an amused father. He had washed his daughter’s hair three times and dried it with a hair dryer. His wife saw the four-year old after bath time and asked him why her hair was still wet.

It was not wet. The lipgloss was still coating every strand of hair, making it look like she had combed grease into it.

The good news is that the red color that had stained her scalp is gone. But, now the tub has a greasy red ring all along the inside.

We’re lucky that these parents are good friends who have a sense of humor.

A few months ago, the girls got together and decided to break every. . .single. . .crayon in their house into teeny tiny bits. I bought them a new box of crayons to say “sorry for the mess”.

I guess this time I’ll be stopping by with some Clorox for the tub and a hat for Jilly’s friend.

    Oh. No.

Well, at least Jilly just did colour and didn’t give her friend a trim.

Did they parents have any idea how to get that out of her hair? I’ve heard to get vaseline out of hair you use peanut butter OR Dawn dish soap. Dawn dish soap works on birds caught in oil slicks, so that might be their best bet.

  2. That is fabulous. I have no idea why my children haven’t discovered this yet.

A second nomination for Dawn – my father is a truck driver, which puts him in contact with any number of stains and yick, and he swears by the stuff.

  3. Hahaha!
I’ve washed any number of disgusting things out of my kids’ hair with Dawn, just to back everyone else up.

Yes, dish soap like Dawn, Palmolive etc.

You have said before that Jilly has a great sense of Fashion, she was probably just trying to update her friends look.

    *wink*

Could have been worse. They could have tried purple.

    😉

  6. Oh no! LOL Good thing they have a sense of humor!

  7. mine tells people’s parents to “close their mouths” when she can’t think of a comeback to any razzing.

I think I’d rather she break the crayons and paint the hair with lip goo.

Oh, don’t kill me, but I think that’s so cute!! I know, the aftermath is not cute, but I think it’s cute that they wanted to experiment with new looks. Boys don’t give rat’s patootie about stuff like that.

I agree with the dishsoap idea. It might not take all of it out, but it will help break up the greasiness.

  9. Glad to get some good tips here bout Dawn.

Maybe you have a beautician in your future!

  10. Life As I Know It says

Oh No! That sounds like a big mess!

  11. Watch out…she’s going to be the friend that she gets caught with sneaking out after curfew in jr high. All the signs are there.

  12. Well girls will be girls….here’s to friends that can laugh. Maybe you should take them a nice bottle of wine or some good coffee too?

  13. creative-type dad says

Wow! Well, at least it wasn’t spray paint.

Because that’s really hard to get out of hair…
