Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow, Part IV

Thank you all so much for the kind comments about my short-blond-hair stage (from Part III. Also, part I is here; part II is here). Meg Ryan? Really??

Your compliments almost make me want to go back to that style, but then I remember that “short” and “blond” requires upkeep. I can see myself now with dark roots down to here, shaggy bangs, uneven layers. . . it just isn’t pretty. Maybe in a few years, I’ll have the time to try that style again.

Predictably, after years of short and blond, I got bored and decided to try red. Oh, how I loved the red hair on the boxes of hair color.

Here is day one, in a semi-permanent burgundy color (the year is 1996; I will meet my beloved shortly after making the switch to red):

Here I am in more of a “Carrot Top” shade. . .and, no, that is not my hairy leg in the photo.

Here I am with disastrously short bangs. . .

And now with hair that is in desperate need of a cut. . .

Now before you tell me, “UGH! You should never have done red!”, you should know that the person writing this has red hair on her head. So, be kind. I do have a box of blond color in the bathroom, though, in case I need to make a change, pronto.

Next up. . .my hair at marriage and after the birth of each of my three children. Trust me, I should never, ever go “natural” with my hair.

I don’t think I’ve commented before. I put you in my bloglines recently, I think I found you through Bossy.

You’re lamenting dark roots, but my problem is the opposite these days (roots just a little to grey). Ugh. I know, TMI. LOL!

You’re hair looks great red! And blond. So what’s it gonna be?

Uh, and that would be “too” but I guess the second “o” didn’t get hit hard enough. Way to impress new friends, eh?

You have improved with age. But in this set of photos you look the same age as in the earliest photos. What is your secret?

And I like the red on you. But on me, red dye looks burgundy.

I’ve given up and am just adding shades of brown lowlights — masks some of the grey but I don’t have to fret about root touchups.

  5. hey…HEY!!!! i know who’s hairy leg that is…and no, it’s not mine…

    bwhahahahaaahah….i am in hysterics here…

  6. I really like the red, it looks inviting. I’m voting red. Are we voting?

  7. I’ve never commented before either, but I instantly loved the red hair – I think it’s the best. Perhaps I should disclose that I’m a redhead at this point, though I don’t think that’s influenced me as red isn’t for everyone.

  8. I went red about 2 years ago and I’m never going back! Blond (even just highlights) was way too fake looking on me. Red, now that’s my color.

I think the red hair suits you very well! But then, I’m a little biased.

  10. Weren’t you blond last time we saw you – has it been that long??

As the proud mom of a crazy red head, I love that color 🙂

I like the red, and the blond. Did you ever have a mix between the two? Whatever you are doing it looks great right now and then too!

  12. I dyed my hair red for SOOOO long that I actually became convinced that I WAS a redhead. Yep.
In the first picture, you are a RINGER for my cousin, although thank GOD you’re not her, since she’s not yet 30 and going on her 3rd marriage. Yep.

I wish I had hair like yours!

    I like the red 🙂

I shouldn’t go natural .. but I do it all the time… sigh.

COOL! You look the same in all the photos! Do you moisturize? I went red once when in high school it was a punk faze!

I think the red is good! And thank you for pointing out the hairy leg…I was a bit horrified for a moment.

I love the first photo, entitled “A Portrait of a Young Lady and Her Outhouse.”

  19. I love red. I am a carrot top red head and I would not be anything else. If nothing else, it is a conversation piece. And it matches me personailty.

My hair is short, so much so that my hair makes Tinkerbell, look like she needs to donate to Locks of Love.

It went that short because it was too much for me to handle with my MS, my arms would get tired to easily. So I wash and go, life is good.

    Love the new do!!
