Wordless Wednesday: The Long Spring

He’d like you to know that there is nothing funny about a broken humerus, especially when there are bikes to be ridden, swings to be swung and trees to be climbed.

Big time bummer – happened to mine over here too last Friday – though the dr. did make for a happy moment when he said playing video games and typing make for better healing 🙂

  5. Ohhhh, what a hard thing, both for child and mother! You'll need some really good books and visits to the museum or other interesting places in your town.

Poor kid. Excuse me: I have to go knock on wood — just an added bit of assurance my two don't do something similar.

  9. Poor kiddo. Itai did the same thing last year, luckily kids heal a lot more quickly than adults.

    3 weeks for the cast?

Oh no!!!! How'd he do it? We were fortunate with Bii's (second) broken wrist last August: The doctor let him have a removable cast so he could still (carefully) swim. The humerus isn't so humorous. I hope it doesn't slow him down too much. SO sorry for you both!!

    Hi guys!

I didn't post too much detail since it is "wordless Wednesday", but I can post a comment, right?

He fell off a piece of playground equipment at preschool. He can't play sports or run around for a month. Sling is on for 2-3 weeks (3 weeks is preferable), and after that, we just lay low until mid-May.

He thankfully (in this case) LOVES video games and board games, so I'll let him indulge but it's going to be hard. I've already had to cancel an invite to a friend's birthday party next week b/c it's at an indoor play space. Sigh.

  19. I had one of those, twice.Caught my shorts on the s hook of a swing as I took off at a run to keep my two year old from heading to the road (dislocated shoulder). Tripped over a little red wagon pulled by one of my students (fractured humerus). The little buggers are a hazard. It's worth buying a second sling. Shower or bathe him in the one he has on, then gently slip it off and put on the dry one. Repeat frequently. You avoid the possibility of accidently having it in the wrong (painful) position during bathing. The strap over the shoulder can be really annoying. Sometimes it helps to pad it. That and a little spoiling should help.

Sorry about the broken arm though I can say with some authority that it has not stopped any bike riding and other activities in this house. In fact my daughter was very proud of her cast! Quick healing and a good spring!

  25. Poor dude! Brandon (2.5 yrs) has been to the ER 2 times already in his short life. First, he had stitches in his finger, his older sister slammed his finger in the door jam, and second, when he bit it on his trike thing, got his chin and had stitches. I have a feeling we will go again in his future!

  29. Just remind him of what someone told you when you broke your wrist: "Well, you know you're livin'!" I'm sure that will make him feel better when he can't ride his scooter. Dang! poor guy… I hope he heals quickly…

Oh, poor kid! Here's hoping the time passes quickly and you can find some really cool stuff to do to make up for the stuff he'll miss out on. I have no idea how we've avoided any broken bones with our four up till now (frantically knocking wood).
