In praise of an uneventful year

No matter how many times I sit down to start a new post, I’m stuck with how to begin. I vowed I wouldn’t start with, “Hey, I’ve been gone for six months!” but here I am. . .saying just that.

Fortunately, there is no reason for the absence other than being a little tired of writing about my life and also getting a bit addicted by the immediacy of Facebook. You mean I can write two sentences in my Facebook status update and have 15 comments in 10 minutes, versus spending an hour editing a post?

But Facebook posts seem lost within hours even though I’m sure they are still on some server. And maybe this can just be my own little space to talk and sometimes even say something worth reading.

2013 has been a pretty great year so far. I felt almost guilty on the phone with a good friend who is going through a tough patch when she asked, “What’s new with you?” Um. . .really, everything is. . .okay. Nothing too exciting to report. Nothing gossip-worthy. Nothing but putting one day in front of another day, looking back, and saying, “Things are going well.

What else?

She turned twelve (and got her braces off!):

She’s coming back.

This one is doing just dandy.

And we’re going here again.

We are still homeschooling, and I’m gearing up to have a 7th (gulp), 5th, and 3rd grader in September.

So, what’s new with you?

  1. I love your line about Facebook. So true. Welcome back to blogging!

  2. The photos don’t want to load for me so I’ll be back later but I wanted to say I totally know the feeling. I start a month strong but then I haven’t blogged in forever and feel like any post should start with EVERYTHING I’ve been up to. I like how you did it!

Ugh, I hope I’m not making the photos too big! I hate when photos take forever to load. LMK if there is a problem later and I’ll see what I can do. And, yeah, that first post back feels very weird but I’m so grateful that you guys are taking a moment to say hi!

  3. Wow, it’s been 18 months since I blogged. And almost as long since I’ve read anyone regularly. I agree – Facebook has been a great tool to keep up with everyone. Only, it’s also full of crap too…

I stopped when my oldest went through a phase with not wanting me to write about her and then her sisters followed suit. But now she has her own blog – .

I’m right there with you – a 7th grader, 5th grader and 4th grader in the fall, although I don’t homeschool. Now I’m nervous about the prospect of highschool in 2 years – wasn’t she JUST a kindergartener?

Please tell your daughter that any blog that posts a fudge recipe is okay with me! : ) And, yes, weren’t they just babies!?!? How is it that I’m thinking ahead to high-school years?!? (and all the fun that goes with it?)

I’m so glad we can connect via Facebook. I do get sad when people I “know” online just disappear.

  4. Congratulations on your half-marathon! I’ve been very, very absent from my blog as well. Too much going on!

Thank so much Meg! And, I guess it’s better to be “living” life than just writing about it, right? Hope it is mostly fun stuff that you have going on now.

  5. Missed you on your blog!!!!! facebook isn’t the same. keep blogging my friend so I get to keep tabs on one of my favorite people in the world!
